Today is Thursday and for the last couple of months, I’ve schlepped my 2 dogs to doggie daycare on Thursdays. What a ridiculously yuppie thing to do but, in my defense, I have some legitimate reasons. Wally loves to play. His report card at the end of the day makes a momma proud.

Wally had a great time playing with the big dogs today. He enjoyed running and chasing Max, Bear, Tucker and Mocha. He enjoyed swimtime.

He comes home at the end of the day and can barely drag his big beagle behind off of the couch to greet W because he’s so tired. Most of the time, that exhaustion lasts well into Friday so that’s money well spent.

Kahlua, on the other hand, attends doggie daycare because she has the socialization skills of a terrorist. Kind of nervous, very sneaky, ready to attack…you know the kind. Her report card reads more like the kind the teachers write for the problem kid in kindergarten class. It’s more about what isn’t said than what’s said.

Kahlua enjoyed just sitting in the grass, taking in the sunshine. She didn’t seem to want to play with her friends.

Who are they kidding? She has no friends.

But like a mom who keeps thinking there will be a breakthrough, I dutifully drop them off each Thursday morning and eagerly await the report card at the end of the day while handing over my debit card. Maybe it’s true what they say…maybe you can’t teach old dogs new tricks.

Then again, maybe she’ll surprise me someday. The optimistic side of me believes anyone can change if they put their mind to it.
