Peaks and valleys make up most of our days but someone forgot to throw in the peaks this week ~ who can I call for this blunder?! While it’s been a week of several valleys, I’m adjusting and looking forward to all of the doors that God is going to throw open for some wonderful people in my life.

Friendships do take on new characteristics over the passage of time and we adapt. Family members do experience heartbreak and divorce and we love them through the pain. Nephews do have chronic illnesses that will potentially affect not only their lives but the lives of their parents for decades and they rise every morning, looking for new hope. Co-workers do feel led to spread their wings and sometimes leave our hallways for new challenges and we congratulate them and wish them well while knowing that going to work won’t be quite the same. Spouses do not always agree on major issues and children do not always obey and we persevere. Past mistakes and patterns do creep in and do cause sleepless nights and we still get up in the morning. Fallen 20 year old heroes are honored with motorcades and police officers are gunned down by 16 year olds and we forge ahead. But when it all happens in just a week…it can take our breath away for a moment.

We press on, hopefully, when life throws a curveball. What about those curveballs that take a bad hop and hit you square in the chest? That really tests our resolve.

It’s  life. It’s why we need to drop to our knees.

Cause me to understand the way of your precepts,
that I may meditate on your wonderful deeds.
My soul is weary with sorrow;
strengthen me according to your word.
Keep me from deceitful ways;
be gracious to me and teach me your law. ~Psalm 119:27-29
