So we dodged the notion of Judgement Day as calculated by Harold Camping. I’m so thankful I didn’t sell my home and head for the hills like some….not sure I follow the logic behind those who altar their lifestyle in anticipation of these claims.

Harold Camping

Does God care what mutual fund has captured our investments or need us to leave our brick home in search of higher ground so we aren’t missed somehow? I have a couple of thoughts here. The first is this:
“No one knows about that day or hour, not even the angels in heaven, nor the Son, but only the Father. Be on guard! Be alert! You do not know when that time will come.” (NIV, Mark 13:32-33)

The second is this:
So you also must be ready, because the Son of Man will come at an hour when you do not expect him. (NIV, Matthew 24:43-44)

It’s my belief that calculations are futile. It is my belief that Judgement Day could be tomorrow or in November or in 2033 or whenever….when it happens is almost irrelevant. What is far more important is that your heart is in order (forget the material items!), that your relationship with Christ is personal and genuine, that your loved ones are brought to Christ, that you’ve shared your faith with strangers and acquaintances and that there is no fear. Why should we fear something so incredibly amazing?

While we are still living, or until Jesus comes again, we have every opportunity to repent. In the end, we will all be judged…even professed Christians. Maybe especially professed Christians. If the fear stems from the judgment that will come, that may actually be a healthy fear…but if you fear whether eternal life is your destiny, there is today to make that decision.

Be blessed!
