If there’s one thing I could suggest to Christians, it would be this. Listen to a wide variety of ministers and speakers. Read a wide variety authors and inspirational blogs. Expand who you think speaks to your heart. My reading/listening favorites appear to be diverse and they are! Their commonality, however, trumps how they deliver their message. Their commonality is a love for Christ.
In the midst of another great sermon by Dr. Creflo Dollar, he peppered scripture with the morsels below. Let me tell you, it’s tough putting morning make-up on when you’re constantly stopping to jot down the important points that this man delivers. Great stuff… and, on the surface, he might have been someone I missed. When I watch him on tv, there are maybe 2 or 3 caucasians in his church. The rest are nodding, fashionable (oh, the hats!) black families who participate in the service. That’s why I began to watch him~ I loved how the congregation participated…and then I began to, as well. I’d find myself throwing out verbal agreements in the solitude of my own room. 🙂 True story.
- What we do in our private life will be revealed in our public life.
- How much time did you spend in the Word this week? Now how much time did you spend on Facebook or doing your favorite hobby?
- Maturity is determined by a man’s mindset.
- Your life will be determined by the way you think and by what you think about.
He invokes passion. He corrects and he encourages. I mention him, specifically, because I nearly missed him. He wasn’t on my “small group study” radar and I didn’t hear of his name in my home church. If it weren’t for channel surfing, I may have missed the nuggets, the scriptural references and the humor. It pains me that so many people have their “favorites” and stop seeking others. Find someone half your age to listen to today. Find someone TWICE your age today! (Ok, for me, that might be tougher).
Anyway, get out there! Find the Francis Chan’s and Andy Stanley’s and so many more. But, above all, like Pastor Creflo Dollar said on his telecast today….
How much time did you spend in the Word this week? Now how much time did you spend on Facebook or doing your favorite hobby?
Ahhhh…..we can learn so much.
Great post, Amy! Love this point and the advice. It makes for a healthy spiritual life and keeps us from thinking we’re the only kind of Christian there is–people who read Blank. Hope you’re doing well. Tks for this. Heather
