As you read my blogs, you’ll find I’m inspired by many, many people. One of the most inspiring speakers and authors for me, personally, is Joyce Meyer. There’s no fluff in her words~ she’s a straight shooter and that’s generally how I am so there you go!
Joyce started me thinking about dissatisfaction. I can go to my closet, my kitchen, my garage or my office and see things that, once upon a time, were important enough to me that I wouldn’t have been satisfied without them. Inevitably, as time marches on, those same things become less and less satisying. They just sort of lose their importance and value until there comes a day when you give it away…or throw it away.
There’s nothing wrong with wanting nice things and working for them so you can attain them ~ that’s not the problem. The problem is when we can’t be satisfied without them.
So, this morning, I looked around my home and surveyed all of the things that we bought because I wouldn’t have been satisfied without them. There was a time when material things were vital to my satisfaction in life. I certainly wasn’t in the league of “keeping up with the Jones'” but I placed greater significance on having things than I should have. As I scanned the livingroom, I decided that there wasn’t anything in there ~ except for my dogs! ~ that would leave me empty if they were gone. I’m sure W would completely disagree when it comes his 50″ HDTV, but I digress.
So where does my satisfaction come from now that I’ve matured a tad? My faith in God, my family, my job that really has the potential to make a difference in someone’s life, my friends. True satisfaction; true blessings. Satisfaction Guaranteed.
So take the leather sofa, the dining room table, the china…they are just possessions that will eventually become tax write-offs.
(But I actually would like to keep that one pair of shoes that are amazing…)
