Besides the BIG things….war, human suffering, injustices, animal abuse and neglect, corrupt governments, etc….besides those things, are you basically happy when you look around at your world? Your house? Your family? Your church? Does the order of things seem aligned or is something out of place?
I believe that when we live out of alignment, we suffer both mentally and physically. I also believe that’s why there are a lot of sick people. Let me give you an example.
A few years ago, I was in the wrong job. It had been the right one but I ignored the obvious change of seasons and I tried to stick it out longer than I should have. I was wearing a heavy coat and it was summer~ that’s how uncomfortable the misalignment felt. I then moved into a job because I had an authentic passion for the cause but I ignored every single clue that the woman I was working for was, quite possibly, one of the most non-authentic women I have ever met. Her cause had shifted from the real cause to how much notoriety she could attain. I was out of alignment, recognized it and promptly cut my losses. Thankfully, not a lot of time wasted.
I was then asked to help out an acquaintance (I had met him a time or two and we had a thousand mutual friends) by managing his office when he really, really needed assistance. Admittedly reluctant, I agreed and learned more about life from that man in our short time together than I could have imagined. His unexpected, tragic departure from this world still brings me to tears. On the other hand, the person who took over was abrasive and condescending. He dropped the F-bomb about 4 times, in a “friendly” way (oxymoron), during our first encounter and I immediately sensed the misalignment. This wasn’t going to work…. for ME.
That’s the key, I think. Recognizing and responding to what works for YOU. Finding alignment is easy; acting on it is something else entirely. Sadly, not acting on it can result in all kinds of ugliness….unhealthy relationships, unrewarding careers, physical ailments, emotional distress, spiritual emptiness, to name a few.
So it bears repeating.
Does the order of your life seem aligned or is something out of place?
God bless,
Amy
